When Chris Lilley was a young kid being bossed around by his older brother, he had no idea the experience would spawn the Big Bite’s hugely popular character Extreme Darren.

Extreme Darren, for those who haven’t seen him, is a skater boy on a mission to make instructional videos, with a younger brother in tow. “He thinks he’s the sickest dude ever but, of course, he always fails,” says Chris. “And he’s a big wuss, too. All up, he’s about taking the piss out of sporting stars who take themselves too seriously.”

Since the character first aired on Big Bite, Chris says he’s been mobbed – mostly by 10-year-old boys. “The other day I was walking near a primary school and this little kid runs out and yells: ‘Extreme Darren!’ and then got all his friends to come over,” he recalls.

Lack of co-ordination is something Chris shares with Extreme Darren, but he’s yet to suffer any serious injuries although he’s had quite a few close shaves.
