Australian Comedy Sells to U.K., New Zealand

SYDNEY, August 15: ABC Enterprises has sold ABC TV’s comedy We Can Be Heroes, known internationally as The Nominees, to Fox International Channels in the U.K. and to TVNZ in New Zealand.

The mockumentary features Australian comedian Chris Lilley in various guises, including a charity minded schoolgirl, a housewife turned elite athlete, a deluded policeman, an aspiring Chinese actor, and twin farm boys, making their pitches in an annual public popularity contest for the Australian of the Year.

"These sales demonstrate the broad appeal of this hilarious show," said Augustus Dulgaro, the manager of ABC Content Sales. "Its humour may come from a satirical look at an Australian tradition, but its appeal is universal, thanks to the creation of original characters who are brought to life by Chris Lilley's superb comedic talents."
