Episode Three
The Age

There are still some cringe-worthy moments but most of it is pretty good value.

I'm happy to admit I hated Chris Lilley's humour in We Can Be Heroes. Friends raved about his smarts and style - and an irate reader accused me of not supporting Australian talent (and liking only commercial TV) - but I was bored witless.

So I approached Lilley's new show cautiously but willing to be impressed. And happily, it's better in every way. Lilley's main characters (all played by him) are drawn with much greater care and hit the mark so often that you can't help but laugh. The dialogue between bully-boy Jonah and his gang, and self-aware Ja'mie and her acolytes, is particularly finely tuned.

There are still some cringe-worthy moments but most of it is pretty good value.
